WHAT IS A CSA?
A CSA (community-supported agriculture) is a subscription to a weekly vegetable box from a local farm.  Once a week, the boxes get delivered to an urban pickup site, where subscribers come to collect them.  Subscribers pay for their share at the start of the season, to help small farmers with all of the heavy costs they incur to get crops started.  A share (appropriate for 2-4 people) typically costs around $500-600 for the 18-20 week harvest season — which typically runs from mid-June to mid-October. Some farms also offer early winter CSAs, late winter CSAs, and year-round less-local CSAs.
